Who we are and what we do.

Dunsland Gardens and Garden Centre has brought a new dimension to gardening in Cork - customers can shop in the garden centre and also wander around the beautiful 200 year old woodland glen.

Peter Dowdall runs the magnificent Gardens and Garden Centre. You may recognise him as the presenter of the popular RTE TV show "Herbal Infusion"; a gardening show with a modern twist.

During the programme, Peter along with many experts transformed a dump area in the Dunsland Garden Centre into a beautiful and practical Herb Garden. This garden is open for the public to enjoy Free Of Charge in Dunsland seven days a week.

Peter and the rest of the staff are on-hand at all times at Dunsland Gardens to advise on all aspects of gardening or just to show you around the beautiful gardens.

Walled Garden c. 1920

The gardens at Dunsland were originally landscaped in the eighteenth century. In those days there was a team of gardeners whose full-time employment was to maintain them.

Amongst the trees planted by at that time were Tulip Trees, Japanese Maples, Yew Trees, Magnolias, Cornus, and Cryptomeriae.

In the present day, work is ongoing to restore the gardens to their former glory, including our selection of dozens of varieties of camellias, which is regarded as one of the best in Ireland and Britain.

The woodland glen restoration project is now complete and visitors and gardening enthusiasts alike are welcome to be pleasantly surprised by this little jewel nestled only minutes from Cork city.
